“Be doers of the Word and not hearers only”

/files/Site Pictures/Grace_Academy_012_small.jpgSince our beginning in 1999, we at Grace Academy have sought to teach our students to “be doers of the Word and not hearers only.”  So we began a tradition of seeking out service projects for our students.  The first service project we embarked on as a school was to provide a needy family with a Christmas.  We decided to have a school Christmas party in which we gave gifts to someone who could not reciprocate.

“Do not despise the days of small beginnings”

As it turned out, God clearly blessed our efforts and our small beginnings.  We were led to a family with six children whose mother /files/Site Pictures/wrapping_gifts (Custom).jpghad recently divorced and

left the father.  He had custody and care of all six children and had to work full-time (and then some) to maintain a very meager living for his family.  They were very needy, not for the usual Christmas gifts, but of beds, clean clothes that fit, house repairs, car repairs, cooking utensils, and so forth.  Our efforts were seen by a number of local businesses. They joined us in donating a great amount of necessities, Christmas gifts for each of the children, and a Christmas dinner.

The next year, God led us to a family with twelve children!  No, we didn’t miss-count. Because we were a larger school, we had more to give, and God again multiplied our gifts and efforts.  Since then, each year we have adopted families at Christmas.

“It is more blessed to give than to receive”

From this small beginning, Grace Academy has a continuing desire to have our students actively involved in serving and giving to those outside our school community. It has become an opportunity to put into action the Christian love they learn about at school.

From washing the Georgetown Fire Department trucks and serving them meals, to sorting clothes at The Storehouse, to supporting a local charitable organization, to singing and visiting at nursing homes, our students love to demonstrate the love of Christ to others. Our students are personally experiencing Jesus words, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
