James 1:22   Be doers of the Word and not hearers only

Since our beginning in 1999, Grace Academy has sought to teach our students to “be doers of the Word and not hearers only". The fundamentals of Christian service cultivated at all levels of our school in the hope that this spirit of serving will flourish and spread beyond our campus and into the community. We have a long established tradition of seeking out service projects for our students throughout the year.

Zechariah 4:10   Do not despise the days of small beginnings

The first service project Grace Academy embarked was to provide a needy family with a Christmas. We decided to have a school Christmas party in which we gave gifts to someone who could not reciprocate. As it turned out, God clearly blessed our efforts and our small beginnings. We were led to a family with six children whose mother had recently divorced and left the father. He had custody and care of all six children and had to work full-time (and then some) to maintain a very meager living for his family. They were very needy, not for the usual Christmas gifts, but of beds, clean clothes that fit, house repairs, car repairs, cooking utensils, and so forth. Our efforts were seen by a number of local businesses. They joined us in donating a great amount of necessities, Christmas gifts for each of the children, and a Christmas dinner.

Acts 20:35    It is more blessed to give than to receive

From this small beginning, Grace Academy has continued our efforts to have our students actively involved in serving and giving to those outside our school community throughout the school year.  It has become an opportunity to put into action the concepts of Christian love they learn about at school. The following are some examples of the service opportunities experienced by Grace Academy students:

* performing a Christmas concert for both a local retirement community and the Georgetown Christmas stroll

* provide Christmas gifts for displaced families and children

* grammar school students recite Scripture for participants in a city-wide Bible Study

* group volunteer work at the Caring Place

* labor to prepare a summer camp facility for inner city children

* caroling at local nursing homes and similar facilities

* school-wide food drives to support the Caring Place pantry

* help prepare downtown Georgetown for the annual Christmas Stroll and provide volunteers during the Stroll

* helped sort donations during the Bastrop fire crisis
